Matt is a physician-scientist and Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at UCLA. He received a BS in Mathematics and a BS in Biology from Duke University. He completed medical school (MD) and Anesthesiology residency at Indiana University where he was chief resident. At UCLA, Matt completed a masters degree in Biomathematics. Matt’s research program aims to predicting perioperative outcomes, particularly post-operative atrial fibrillation, using informatics, genomics and epigenetics. His work has identified new molecular factors driving atrial fibrillation from human cardiac tissue and, using reverse translation, validated the molecular basis for their arrhythmogenic activity. His work aims to discover and translate new therapeutic targets for atrial fibrillation.
